Everything I Read in February 2023

February was a short, blink of the eye, and I am happy about that! I have been grinding away at work, and I feel personally victimized by winter and its’ dark, cold dreariness. Thus, I am ready for sun, warmth, and a vacation. March brings just that! On the 25th, I am headed out to LA for Spring Break. Besides a change in scenery, I am ready for the coastal vibes, hiking, and lots of friend time in a sunny locale!

Ok ok ok, I will start to talk books now. Despite February being a shot month, I read A LOT- 5 books to be exact. To be honest, I haven’t been finding much to watch on tv, even though I have way too many streaming platforms. Therefore, I have been spending a lot of week nights reading. Luckily for you, this means that I have 5 great books to share with you this month. Let’s get to it…

The Cave Dwellers- Christina McDowell

Wealthy, privileged teenagers making bad decisions is not an original concept for a book. However, Christina McDowell drew upon he own upbringing living in an exclusive and connected circle in DC for The Cave Dwellers. While the book is heavy, showing the seedy underbelly of the upper crust (think affairs, drugs, drinking, backstabbing…to name a few), I found this book fascinating as someone who lives in the area, and I enjoyed all the references to the dining, shopping, and landmarks in DC!

The Attic Child- Lola Jaye

Wow, just wow! This book is powerful, moving, and truly unique. It links 2 very different people (one from the early 1900s and the other from the 1970s) who both spent their youth living in the same attic. The circumstances that trapped them were quite different, but their stories intersect and connect in a beautful, elaborately developed story. If historical fiction is your thing, this is a great read!

Stone Cold Fox- Rachel Koller Croft

I have said it 100 times, and I am going to say it again! Psychological and suspense books are my jam. This book was devoured in a weekend, giving me the fix I needed when I am working through books of heavier substance! Bea is a beautiful con artist, who marries to secure a life of privilege and wealth. Her husband’s best friend is hell bent on unearthing the secrets of her past, exposing her to him and his family. This book was just the suspense fun I needed!

Someone Else’s Shoes- Jojo Moyes

When Book of the Month had Jojo Moyes’ latest book for early release, I instantly added it to my cart and I am so glad I did! This was another light read, but I don’t care, because it had me hooked from the start. The premise sounds corny I know- two women, Nisha and Sam, accidentally switch shoes and their stories become entwined through a series of random events. However, once you get past this, you will become invested in both of them and root for them on their journeys. Ultimately, this is a story of friendship and it is just heat-warming!

What Lies in the Woods- Kate Alice Marshall

What Lies in the Woods was my second suspense book of the month! This was my Book of the Month selection and I just got around to reading it. 3 friends are harboring a secret from a childhood tragedy, and all of it starts to unravel as it is exposed fifteen years later. From someone who has read LOTS of books from this genre, this was entertaining and fun to read, but was not anything ground breaking or a must read IMHO!

I am sorry this book post is coming so late, but I hope it was worth the wait with these 5 book reviews! I am always so excited to share these book posts with you, and love when you reach out to share what you read. PLEASE keep sharing and engaging. This book nerd loves it!

xoxo,

L
