Everything I Read in November 2023

Wow, November was fun! It feels like a blur since it went by so fast, but the month was action packed with fun social engagements, holidays and birthdays, and some new Closet Hook opportunities. I started training for a half marathon, saw 2 comedy shows in DC, celebrated some friends and my dad’s birthday, went home to Virginia Beach for Thanksgiving, and worked with some new Closet Hook personal styling clients. In addition, I hosted the first ever Closet Hook book club, where we discussed the book, Bright Young Women. The event was such a great way to bring book lovers together and meet a community of fun, liked-minded women. I am excited to host another in January featuring the book, Ugly Love, by Colleen Hoover. Details will be announced soon!

With an action packed schedule, sadly my reading suffered as a result. I guess something had to give! Despite the craze, I read 3 books. None of which were mind-blowing, but they were entertaining none-the-less, especially the 2 Colleen Hoover books. Ok, let’s jump in!

The Woman in Me- Britney Spears

It seemed like everyone was talking about Britney’s new memoir, so I had to download it when it came out! Here’s my take- yes, it is poorly written and yes, a lot of spoilers were put out in the press, but it’s worth a quick read or listen. The world, especially her parents, did not do right by Britney. She was young, impressionable, and and her family was only out to profit from her success, as a result she was constantly taken advantage of for other’s gain. It is pretty wild how her father was able to keep her under his control for years through a conservatorship, while she supported him through a never-ending tour schedule and producing new albums. I hope Britney finds some peace now that she has more control of her life!

All Your Perfects- Colleen Hoover

One of my reading pro tips is that Colleen Hoover can do no wrong! I have read a lot of her books, but I recently discovered some of her older works on Spotify this month. Therefore, I polished off 2 really quick. All Your Perfects highlights that a perfect couple can have an imperfect marriage. Graham and Quinn struggle with infertility in their marriage. Their initial hopefulness becomes resentment, fear, sadness, and a whole host of other emotions that tests their marriage as they struggle to conceive. I thought this was beautifully written and a powerful story, but it might be a trigger for those who have experienced loss or marital issues.

Ugly Love- Colleen Hoover

This is Closet Hook’s 2nd book club pick! I picked this purely based on my love for Colleen Hoover, and I know that sentiment is shared by many. I will say- I flew through this book and found the characters very likable, but I did wonder for the first half of the book where it was going. Here’s the premise- Tate moves in with her brother to finish nursing school, and quickly is attracted to his neighbor, Miles. Miles keeps Tate at an emotional distance while it turns into a “situationship” based on sex. Eventually, he is able to work through his past trauma and open up to her, allowing them to fully connect and and build a loving relationship. I only wish the book explored more of Mile’s past and was less of a “Fifty Shades” romance novel to start. However, I did enjoy this book, and look forward to discussing it at book club next month!

Thanks for tuning in, and I am excited to be sharing one last book post in 2023 very soon. This has been a year of great reading, and I love sharing and connecting around books in this space!

xoxo,

L
